The Lion on Mars explores what growing up as a child on Mars might look like in the nearish future. This book grabbed my attention from the get go with the scientific information woven through the fictional story told through a child's eyes. As the story unfolds, you realize how complex living on Mars could be - how people get supplies, survive windstorms, the politics that could come into play, and different things that you would have to get used to on another planet. The author backs up a lot of her fictional story with studies done in space, and what astronauts have proposed could lead to humans living on Mars in the future. I loved the storyline and how the book ended. This was fictional but still seemed realistic which I think will grab children's attention. Trigger Warnings: The adults come down with a deadly virus similar to COVID which some children might be sensitive too, grief and death is discussed, death of a pet is also discussed when the children have to kill off their pet mouse who brought in the virus
